Tales from the Operating Room IX......
Or, when your breast is not your friend. 50-ish year old with a breast mass that has been present "for a few months". Fairly impressive size, as you will soon see. Core biopsy revealed Cystosarcoma phyllodes. Off to the OR:
Here is the tumor. It has replaced the entirety of the left breast.
Fortunately her breast were pedunculated enough to allow for skin closure without a flap or skin graft.
Here it is ex vivo it weighed in at 3,500 grams (almost 7 3/4 pounds). There were veins of 4-5 millimeters draining this thing. The margins were clear and she is doing well. |
